We are excited to announce that we have purchased another cabin in Wrightwood. Renovations are in progress and we hope to have it up and rent-able by the fall, if not sooner. It's rustic and vintage, built in the 1930s, with a good location that's just a 10-minute walk to the shops & restaurants and just around the corner from the Wash where people hike and sled. We'll post more before-and-after shots as the work progresses. Now for a name... any suggestions? It's very cottage-y so we plan to keep Cottage in its name.
We are fans of bamboo flooring due to its environmental sustainability and it's beauty. We've installed bamboo floors in both the Hideaway and Little Pines cabin. So it was a real treat to get to visit a bamboo floor factory nestled the bamboo-covered hills of rural Zhejiang province in China during our travels over the summer. This manufacturer sells to Home Depot and Lowe's, so it's possible that our flooring actually originated here.
A neighbor was throwing out these old beams, and we couldn't resist the temptation to re-purpose them into a mantle for Little Pines cabin. As with all such projects, it turned out to be much more difficult than we expected, but they are now successfully installed. We'll put some pieces of birch limbs into the holes, which will stick out and make great little hooks for hanging gloves to dry after skiing at Mountain High, and of course for hanging Christmas stockings!
